This future tool will help estimate rough solar costs for a roof based on location, roof size, electricity use, sunlight, battery needs, and installation assumptions.
Status: planned. Until this launches, treat any solar estimate as a starting point only. Real pricing depends on local permits, utility rules, roof condition, installer quotes, battery choices, equipment availability, and safety requirements.
Before using any solar calculator
- Collect at least 12 months of electric bills if you have them.
- Write down which loads matter most during an outage: lights, fridge, communications, medical devices, tools, heating, cooling, or water pumps.
- Check whether your goal is lower bills, backup power, partial off-grid use, or a fully independent system.
- Separate roof-mounted solar from portable or cabin-scale solar. They have different safety, permitting, and cost assumptions.
- Plan for professional review before electrical work, grid interconnection, roof work, or battery installation.
